APPLICATIONS FOR ADAPTLAB 2013 ARE OPEN

AdaptLab is an advanced course designed for professional European scriptwriters and/or writer/directors wishing to work in the field of adaptation.

AdaptLab is a long-term training course consisting of three 6-day residential workshops and two online sessions for 12 participants. It follows the whole adaptation process analysing the book's potentials, exploring the different possibilities of its story world, and following the development of the extended treatments and/or scripts with the possibility of presenting the work to a group of  international producers (of which at least 15 focused on adaptation), sales agents and other industry professionals from all over the world during the TorinoFilmLab meeting Event in October/November 2013.  Participants will also be guided by cross-media experts in exploring the possibilities of expanding the story world through other media (mobile, internet, graphic novels).

The call for entries is dedicated to two different groups of participants that will follow the same course:

- Call for participants applying with adaptation projects (for which they need to have either a producer attached or have secured the rights)

- Call for scriptwriters wishing to develop an adaptation from previouslyselected novels (4 Italian novels and 4 Scandinavian novels)

Who can apply?
Experienced European scriptwriters and/or writer-directors that are interested in learning more about adaptation working on non-original stories.

Applicants must come from Member states of the European Union or one of the following European countries: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, Croatia.

The working language of all the workshops, meetings and events is English; thus, a good knowledge of English is essential in order to participate.

Workshop locations & dates
1st residential workshop May/June 2013 (TBC)
2nd residential workshop 19-25 August  2013 (Denmark)
3rd residential workshop and Meeting Event October/November 2013 (Turin, Italy)

The workshop locations and dates are subject to change.

Each workshop is organised within three groups headed by a tutor. Each of the groups will work on 4 adaptations. Four participants will work on the adaptation projects that they have applied with, while the other eight will work on previously selected novels from Italy and Scandinavian countries, four of which will be genre novels (noir/thrillers). The tutors heading the group will work in close contact with the 4 projects and participants, facilitating discussions and development through group work and online sessions, following step by step the progress of each adaptation.

From the 2nd workshop, each group will also have a cross-media expert attached, who will work inside the group structure on each specific project.

The last workshop will be mostly focused on pitch-training; participants will have three days of group sessions and pitching rehearsals to get ready for the final presentation.

During the workshops participants will be also inspired by lectures/master classes on specific adaptation and storytelling issues, theories and techniques as well as on juridical and legal issues concerning adaptation.

Participation cost
Course participation fee for scriptwriters applying with projects (from all eligible countries) is 2.000 Euro
